A dining table is not only a functional piece of furniture, it also serves as a gathering place for the family. Accent your quality furniture by creating a winter themed centerpiece that will liven up nightly meals as well as wow guests. While blooms are not readily available in winter, there are other readily available materials that can be used for your tablescape. We present three quick ideas to liven up your dining room during the gray days of winter.
Go Timeless with Paperwhites
If you want to create a timeless winter centerpiece with minimal effort, you can’t go wrong with paperwhites. The quintessential winter flower, paperwhites make an idyllic centerpiece regardless of whether you use one or more of them.
To accommodate the height of a live paperwhite, get a tall glass vase with a rounded bottom that’s separated from the vase’s stem by a small opening. Position the plant so that its roots pass through the small opening and extend into the roundish base. Fill the base with water. Depending on the size of your table, you may want to use three or more vases and plants to create a single centerpiece.
Spice Things Up with Cinnamon
To add a new look to your dining room, we suggest you shop for dining room furniture at our Fort Wayne, IN family-owned and operated gallery. Similarly, we recommend you spice up your dining room set with a centerpiece that will release the always-in-season smell of cinnamon.
To make this centerpiece, you’ll need a candle, cinnamon sticks that are trimmed to the candle’s height, jute, a one-inch wide strap of burlap and some glue. Use the glue to adhere the cinnamon sticks side by side around the candle. Wrap the burlap strap around the cinnamon sticks, tie a bow and secure with glue. Tie a piece of jute around the candle on top of the burlap to complete the centerpiece’s rustic look.
Bring the Outdoors Inside with Birch
Some trees like birch have pliable bark, which makes it a cinch to use the material to create breathtaking centerpieces. If you don’t already have one on hand, purchase a candle encased in a glass jar. Use glue to affix the bark around the glass jar, making sure the bark doesn’t extend above the lip of the jar.
If you don’t have access to pliable tree bark, you can use felt to mimic the look of the real thing. There’s no reason to stop there, however. You can add some pine needles or holly to give your centerpiece an even more festive, seasonal look.
